Description
A word from the PureFlax Nutritionist
PureFlax Flaxseed Oil is a natural cold-pressed plant oil. As such it retains its bioactive Essential Oils, antioxidant vitamins and flavonoids, supporting a range of health benefits that are dependant on reducing oxidative stress.
Across plant oils Flax has the greatest content of Omega-3 α-linolenic acid (ALA), Whilst awareness of the benefits of Omega fatty acids are well known, there has been a dietary shift in the ratio between omega-6 and omega-3:

Most sources recommend a Japan-style ratio of ω-6:ω-3 of 4:1. With 50% Omega-3, Flax Oil supplementation will help redress the UK Diet.
While the main omega in Flax Oil is omega-6, it contains a range of others – omega -6/ -7/ -9 – each supporting optimal health:
- High levels of α-linolenic acid (omega-3 – 59% of total oil content); known to support the oxidative stress & the natural anti-inflammation cycle
- Omega-3 from flax functionality may support insulin sensitivity
- Omega-3 also supports the body’s natural allergenic responses.
- Omega-6 oils to support vascular function & cardiac health
- Omega-9 oil (Oleic) helps support exercising muscle activity
- Omega-3: omega-6 ratio at 5:1. Complements omega-6 content of materials (soya, olive, sunflower oil etc.) to achieve optimum recommended ratios.
- Presence of stearidonic acid (C18:4 ω-3) facilitates conversion of omega acids to EPA & DHA
- Omega-3, -6 & -9 fatty acids are precursors of eicosanoids -via EPA &DHA – that are central in the body’s regulatory mechanisms and support natural defence and structural mechanisms.
Whilst EPA & DHA are central to the production of eicosanoids, and fish & algal oils supply only these, Flax Oils α-linolenic is central to a range of other benefits. For example, while EPA & DHA can reduce blood triglycerides (fats), ALA help reduce cholesterol, fasting blood glucose etc., reducing dyslipidemia and reducing the incidence of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
Flax Oil is also a source of many bioactive components; a rich source of tocopherols & tocotrienols (active versions of vitamin E) & Vitamin C. These antioxidants mop up free radicals, support the reduction of oxidative stress (both factors in improving immune status) & complement ALA in anti-inflammatory mechanisms.
Flax Oil also contains lignans & phytosterols (supporting cardiac function), squalene (skin health), carotenoids (eye condition) & a range of terpenoids (Essential Oils) that support health and the immune response. Additionally, the oil contains both galacto- and polar lipids that optimise cell membranes and help optimise the microbiome, including the immune function
PureFlax Flax Oil, as a cold pressed product of whole linseeds – no heat treatment, no chemical extraction – supplies not only the precursors to EPA & DHA, but also supports a whole range of health and wellbeing functions.
